Gastronomy Event Wines for April 2010

Many understand the term "gastronomy" to refer to the art of cooking, but it is truly an interdisciplinary study ( discovering, tasting, experiencing, researching and understanding) in Fine Art. Food and wine are considered a form of fine art sharing a communal goal of bringing people together and creating an experience.

After learning the ropes of gastronomics with Chef Candy Lesher on April 28, find your inner Sommelier and increase your Foodie flare with the following paired wines available through Arcadia Fine Wine:

For savory crepes, try 2005 Preys et Fils Cuvee de Fie Gris ($15.50) from Loire, France. What the heck is Fie Gris you ask? A cousin of Sauvignon Blanc, Fie Gris combines all the mineral zest of a fine Sancerre or Pouilly-Fume with a touch more weight and bottomless complexity that stimulates the palate and the senses. Electrify your palate and impress your friends with this complex wine's abundant perfumes and rich, juicy core of blushed-white fruit.

The elegance of beef wellington lends itself well to the moderate acid and tannins found in a bottle of 2007 Pecchenino Siri d'Jermu Dolcetto di Dogliani ($26.50). Rated 90 points by Parker, this 100% Dolcetto is the only DOC of its kind offering spicy notes coming from a good, non intrusive wood accompanied by touches of small red mature fruits. Its lengthy finish with long shades of minerals demonstrates why this awesome wine from Piedmont is one of the region's best in power, complexity and balance.

And for the finale, wash your chocolate souffle down with   2006 Lodigiani Vivace Sparkling Malvasia ($15.50). Pronounced mah-vah-zee-ah, this slightly sparkling wine from Piacentini, Italy will dance on your palate with aromatic notes of acacia flowers and almond. Very approachable and light, remember you can never go wrong with tasty bubbles!
